Alopecia is a medical term for hair loss
Androgenetic alopecia occurs due to the sensitivity of hair follicles to androgens (ie. testosterone). This is the most common cause for hair loss in 70% of men and 40% of women. Men usually develop recession of the hairline at the temples (receding hairline) and baldness at the top whilst women present with scattered thinning of the hair at the top of the head.
Dr. Grace Carole Beltran is a dermatologist in St Lukes Medical Center and has over 27 years experience. She completed her Bachelor of Science in Physical Therapy from the UP College of School of Allied Medical Professions in 1979 and Doctor of Medicine from University of Santo Tomas in 1985. These, along with extensive training in Harvard University and the University of London.
She is a member of Philippine Dermatological Society, Philippine Association of Aesthetic Surgery, Philippine Academy of Dermatologic Surgery Foundation, Inc. and Philippine Academy of Cutaneous Surgery.
